Any big plans for Memorial Day weekend? I, for one, will be spending it catching up on some long overdue projects like planting my herb garden, delving into a book that's been on my reading list for months, and enjoying the weather with friends!
I'm also going to my first CrossFit class! I'm so excited to see what it's all about after having read about it and watched the CrossFit games for two years running. I've read and listened to podcasts that both laud Crossfit as the best way to workout and condemn it as a method that encourages sacrificing form for reps and teaches that working to exhaustion is the only way to get a quality workout. I can understand some of the criticisms, but I have to believe that it's certain individuals who adopt these all-or-nothing philosophies, and somehow they can mutated and passed along as the fundamental beliefs of the Crossfit brand itself. I don't think that's fair at all, which, of course, is why I'll be checking it out for myself to make my own assessment! In the event that you're curious about a first-time Crossfitter's experience, check out this blog post from the one-and-only Gina at Fitnessista.com. She gives a great, impartial (in my opinion) review, citing the things she loved about her experience and the method of exercise in general, then then the reasons why she decided it wasn't for her. Give it a read.
So I'll be back with a post later this weekend with photographic evidence of my experience! Until then, keep on keeping strong!
