Happy Wednesday, folks. I hope this (risqué) little joke made you chuckle :-) Sometimes, you just gotta share some off-color humor to keep things light, am I right?! Having a sense of humor and taking the time to really laugh each day is so crucial to my mental health, which translates into my physical well-being. I think this is the case for most people, so it bears mentioning here that one of the things I love most about Neghar Fonooni is her sense of humor, wit, and how all that manifests in her approach to fitness and health.
NegharFonooni.com is the home of Eat, Lift and Be Happy, Neghar's online community where she shares training advice, lifestyle tips, recipes, and general musings about how to eat mindfully, train intuitively, and live joyfully--her simple, but powerful, mantra. I first discovered Neghar's blog a couple years ago and it took about the time to read a handful of blog posts for me to realize that this girl gets it. She's got years of experience in the industry, and in the last 3 or so years left her job at a training facility to start her own business. She produces amazing content on her blog and on social media, and she recently made online headlines by posting a "reverse progress" pic which shows her at her current weight, 14 pounds heavier than the photo right next to it, in which she is at her leanest. In her accompanying blog post, she states that by applying her mantra, she's overcome the body image demons that plagued her when she was lean and come out healthier, wiser, and more content, even in a body that may not be what society defines as ideal for a fitness model (this blog was inspired by Neghar's decision to not "lean out" for a fitness photo shoot and instead provide a different perspective about how women in fitness are "supposed" to look).
Needless to say, this image and the accompanying words had a profound effect on me and will hopefully change the way society depicts how "fit" women are supposed to look like, both in photo shoots and in real life. Neghar's success is a direct reflection of her realness, and I hope that she continues to inspire men and women everywhere with her message of health. She's a true pioneer.
