Anyone worth their weight in kettlebell swings in the fitness biz knows Mike Boyle's name. He's made a reputation for himself over the years for being a masterful strength and conditioning coach to numerous athletes of multiple sports; a foremost expert in functional training and general fitness; and a prolific producer of instructional material about program design, coaching, injury prevention, functional movement, and generally kicking ass as a coach/trainer/fitness professional.
The man himself! |
Boyle is the founder and owner of Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning, a single facility in Woburn, MA that has since expanded to two additional locations in the greater Boston area. The Woburn facility has the distinction of being named The Best Gym in America by theactivetimes.com, and it has made the top of several other publications' lists numerous times, including Men's Health magazine.
The best thing about Boyle's blog is its no-frills, straightforward approach. Boyle's posts touch on a range of topics from tips to being a more effective trainer/coach to the best exercises to condition ice hockey players to prescriptions for a healthier, more fulfilling life. His blog is a true example of why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover: an article about something seemingly mundane or outside your world may just blow you away. I was certainly guilty of skipping over articles that didn't interest me, until I sat down and read a compilation of his articles from cover-to-cover about conditioning for ice hockey players. Who would have thought that a topic that appeared so specialized would have some practical application?! I learned more from those articles about how to apply, modify, and progress conditioning protocols than I had from anything I'd read before that addressed the topic directly!
Besides Boyle's awesome blog, be sure to check out www.bodybyboyle.com, his facilities' website, and if you can't get enough, consider subscribing to Strenthcoach.com for additional materials, videos, and more!
