Yeah, I just went there.
HAPPY FRIDAY!
My apologies for my failure to post yesterday, but I went home from work because I didn't feel well, passed out, and didn't get up again until this morning! I'm still feeling a little groggy, but hopefully whatever it was is long gone. When you rarely get sick, it's hard to admit when you do need to slow it down a notch and rest. I'm glad I listened to my body and gave it the break it needed!
Now let's get down to business. Today I'm going to feature the National Academy of Sports Medicine's site because 1) I am certified as a personal trainer through NASM; 2) I believe in the research-based, scientifically proven training model that NASM created and teaches; and 3) The website is a great resource for trainers, be they new to the training game or experienced.
The NASM site maintains a great blog that covers topics such as program design, corrective exercise, nutrition, and proper warmup techniques. There are also assessment forms and program templates that you can download when working with clients independently or at a gym, physical therapy studio, or health club that prescribes to NASM's programming model. NASM also has a great social media presence, and post often on Facebook. The YouTube videos were very helpful to me when making the decision about which organization to choose for my cert. program.
I am very impressed with NASM's customer service. Every interaction I had with a representative, be it over the phone, via email, or via live chat, was pleasant. My questions were resolved with relative ease, and I felt like the folks with whom I was interacting were personally invested in my success as a personal trainer. That made me feel so wonderful, especially since the process can be so intimidating and difficult at times.
I highly recommend this site to anyone who is considering becoming a personal trainer or who is already credentialed and interested in ongoing education opportunities. NASM offers many continuing education courses and seminars throughout the year, around the country. If you're more interested in self-study, the blog, FB page, Twitter feed, etc. are full of more than enough information to help you learn and grow as a trainer.
